Default best weapon?

I'm actually running a Dervish character and I want to upgrade my weapon. I looked on the official and unofficial wikis and looked at the unique items. Is it me or they are almost all the same, except for the name. They all seem to have the same basic damage and same amount of bonus damage.

If that's the case, it means that I can't really upgrade it with a better one, which sucks..

Welcome to Guild Wars.

Yes, the (max) weapons all have the same stats and mods. Only the looks change.

tHANKS!! I'm almost new! been playing on and off for the last 3-4 years.. I'm play only a few hours here and there.. I finished Prophecy and I'm currently half-way through in Nightfall and I'm just realizing that the game sucks regarding to weapon and armor upgrades... It's saddening to know that you're doing quests for almost nothing..

Hey m8! GW is about player skills, and therefore has Anet decided that it should be easy to get max weapons and armor, even though it can be a bit tricky to get all the upgrades you want. Anyways, if you want to spend lotsa money on show-off things, then what could be better than having a really nice looking scyhte? Or armorpieces, gloves etc?

If you don't want to spend alot of money (or don't have that much), you'll know that you don't have to spend two and a half fortune just to get the best weapon/armor, but will be able to compete against all others on the same basis as look doesn't do damage

Most people that I come across prefer the weapon system in GW over other MMOs, as do I. It allows for a more versatile, much more balanced gameplay.

well I can understand why they are doing it but I don't personally like it. In GW, there thousands of creatures to slain again and again and it's kinda lame that the weapons attributes aren't randomized a bit. I'm not thrilled to get a new weapon only for the look of it.

can someone recommend a game (don't suggest 'WoW' as I can't stand the graphics).

I don't like the fact that after having done 1/4 of the game I can't find something better.. unique or not..

It's not about being better based on equipment... this game is not a game where you grind endlessly to be level 194 and be better than everyone else because you are a higher level. It is about balance and as such, once you reach a certain area, yes the weapons do max out to make balance. But that isn't to say that you will have the exact weapons as the next person, there are upgrade components and inscriptions for that, each weapon is meant to benefit the build... not wtfpwn everything in your path b/c omgnoes that guy has a level 140 scythe that does 19000 damage per hit.

This game is about the skills a player uses and how effieciently that player uses them, and about teamwork and fluency of builds.

Well I have to confess and also didn't do any deep skills researching. I guess I could improve my character a lot by getting decent ones. I don't change them often and rarely buy any.

my bad!

PS to myself:
GW2 & Aion are looking nice..

ok there was a game that changed the look and everything else of the thing you were playing. it was called...

ELITE.

Try that on for size. Its old and was Game of the Year wayy wayyyyyyyy wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in the day

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_%28video_game%29

Try that out. Without that in 1984 there would be no MMORPG's

What are you talking about? Without Elite there would be no MMORPG's? I found your logic horribly flawed. The MUDs would like to have a word with you:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MUD

That said, the OP has to remember that Guild Wars differs greatly from some of the more common MMOs. First off, there's no monthly fees, which can offer profits the development company can use to further development.

Also, the general focus of the game is PvP. Yes, there is a huge PvE area, but the game is made for PvP. What fun is PvP if there's a bunch of rich people with ample free time who can get all the best equipment and you can't? It creates a huge inbalance where only those with time and money can truly succeed at the game. Having played similar systems (for example Magic the Gathering or any other collecting card game), it is not any fun when you can't compete because you simply don't have the time and money. So instead, GW opts for a more accessible, open system that levels the playing field and focuses on player skill as others have stated.

As for something that might better suite the OP's desire... I'm not sure. Everquest or the like usually have a monthly feel. If you can pay that, go for it, you will enjoy those. Otherwise, look for Diablo 2, or a similar clone. Those have more diversity on items, but beware of encounter what I described in the previous paragraph.

yeah but they should at least randomize some weapons & armors attributes.. I really like to hope there is something better hidden somewhere. Is there anything worth getting somewhere?

The damage range is the same for all max weapons, and the armor-level stat is the same for all max armor for a particular profession. That doesn't mean there aren't variations.

For weapons, you can add modifications that change the characteristics of a weapon. A scythe with a vampiric mod is not the same as a scythe with a sundering mod is not the same as a scythe with an ebon mod. Learn about mods and how they complement your skills. For example, a weapon with a zealous mod is good if you use many energy-based skills, while a zealous mod is almost pointless if you use mostly adrenal skills. Some mods increase damage while some provide other benefits, so there is a tradeoff involved.

Likewise for armor. Armor may have its characteristics changed by runes and insignia, which must be chosen to complement your playstyle, weapons, and skills.

GW is about skill in combining and using what is available to everyone, not aboutt finding more and more powerful gear so you can pwn anyone who doesn't happen to be as lucky as you at getting good drops.
